Lead Inspections for The Township of Verona

This notice is to advise owners of rental dwelling units within the Township of Verona of the requirements newly adopted under the New Jersey Lead Safe Certification Law, P.L.2021, c.182, and the corresponding regulations codified under N.J.A.C. 5:28A-1 et seq. This new law requires certain rental units built before 1978 to have a visual inspection/analysis performed to identify any lead hazards, either at the next tenant turnover or by July 31, 2024, whichever occurs first.

UNDER STATE LAW, PROPERTY OWNERS WHO FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THESE NEW INSPECTION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS COULD RECEIVE FINES OF UP TO $1,000.00 PER WEEK

To provide the most efficient process for property owners to meet the requirements of the new law, the Township of Verona has partnered with LEW Environmental Services to implement and administer a comprehensive lead safe compliance solution. Their inspectors are NJ DCA Certified Lead Evaluation Contractors, and their services include all-in-one inspection and reporting services at the lowest offered cost per unit to property owners.

You received a notice because the Township of Verona records indicate that you own 1 or more rental units and may be affected by this new law. Therefore, to avoid falling out of compliance and risking costly penalties, you should schedule an inspection directly with LEW Environmental Services as soon as possible.

Once your account is set up, automated email reminders and confirmations will be sent to you. Additionally, you will be granted access to an online portal containing real-time compliance information for each of your units which is also automatically submitted to the Township and the State on your behalf.

If you believe any of the rental units you own may qualify for an exemption (e.g., multiple-unit buildings registered with the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for over 10 years, etc.), please speak click here to learn more about exemptions.
